Jesse

Jesse Sugar Moore is a math educator with 20 years of experience in teaching, tutoring, research, and curriculum writing. He holds a BS in Mathematics with High Honors from the University of Maryland and pursued graduate studies in mathematics at the University of Texas at Austin. He has taught a wide range of courses, from Algebra II to Multivariable Calculus and Linear Algebra, at Garrison Forest School in Baltimore, Maryland; Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Talented Youth Online; the University of Maryland; and the University of Texas at Austin. He has also developed curriculum for the University of Texas High School and co-authored a research paper published in Involve: A Journal of Mathematics in 2009.
In addition to classroom teaching, Jesse has tutored students ranging from 4th through college and beyond, coached standardized test preparation, and led the Math Success Program at the University of Maryland. His work has earned him numerous awards and accolades, including the Math Success Program’s Math Coach of the Year Award, the GEICO Achievement Award, two undergraduate teaching assistantships, four undergraduate research fellowships, a graduate student teaching assistantship, a Research Training Grant from the University of Texas, the College of Computer, Mathematical, and Physical Sciences’ Dean’s Award for Academic Achievement, and a perfect GRE math score.
Beyond the realm of math, Jesse is a musician and artist who has performed as a disc jockey at hundreds of gigs for crowds as large as 500 people. He co-owns and runs a small vinyl record and art shop in Portland, Oregon, with a friend and fellow artist. Jesse loves traveling and has visited 47 U.S. states and more than 30 countries. He lives in Portland with his cat, Alice Coltrane.
