Becca

Becca Mellema is a highly trained tutor with over a decade of teaching experience and a strong passion for science. She began her tutoring career in high school as a personal algebra tutor. During her time at Whitman College, she spent all four years tutoring chemistry. After graduating in 2016 with a BA in Biophysics, Biochemistry, and Molecular Biology, she then spent the next subsequent years tutoring math and science before attending graduate school.
Becca earned a PhD in Microbiology and Immunology (University of Utah) with a focus on how patients develop strokes during Inflammatory Bowel Disease. During her graduate years, she worked as a teaching assistant for her graduate immunology class. Alongside training in the laboratory, Becca was also extensively trained in science communication, earning a fellowship with the Natural History Museum of Utah. Here, she specialized in translating graduate-level science to museum members as young as elementary school.
When she is not tutoring, Becca loves to ride her bike, spend time with a good book, and play tabletop roleplaying games. She will also spend hours discussing the wonders of biology if permitted.
